Vera Wang for Kohl's - September

Following in Target and H&M's trend, Kohl's has a new high-end designer label coming. Starting in September, Simply Vera will be unveiled to the masses with huge TV & print ad pushes.

I love the Wizard of Oz theme she has going on with the collection. The line runs from $12 - $128 - more expensive than the normal fare at Kohl's.

Yet another reason to head to Buffalo for a day of shopping!

Bitten

Sarah Jessica Parker, known for her flamboyant & trendsetting style, has released a line called "Bitten" available exclusively at Steve & Barry's. The brand's manifesto: "Fashion is not a luxury, it's a right", explains why the entire line is priced at $20 and less. Surprisingly the clothes are wearable and current, prompting perhaps a quick trip down to Buffalo to check it out...

Obsessions...

I've been smitten with Shoppers Drug Mart from a young age, but it has now turned into a full-blown obsession. With Shoppers unveiling their high-end beauty boutique, I can now shop for my cosmetics (& gain Optimum points) in the comfort of my favourite store, where previously I had to make special trips to Sephora & Holts. Love it!

Panorama

Went out to Panorama last week and loved it. We were relegated to the North-facing side of the balcony, but still had awesome views of the city. We had a few drinks and nibbled on apps, and I have to say, I'm no food connoisseur, but they made the tastiest bruschetta I have ever had. For anyone who hasn't been (am I the only one?), I highly recommend a visit - see you there!

Danny Boyle's Sunshine

Sunshine illuminates Danny Boyle's tremendous talent. From Trainspotting to The Beach to 28 Days Later, Boyle's visual effects are his staple and they truly shine in his newest masterpiece. Sunshine takes place in the near future when the sun starts to fail. In order to save humankind, a ship is sent out with a "payload" to begin a new star in the core of the dying one. Much like Armageddon and Deep Impact, we have a handful of individuals charged with saving Earth. But the main difference is the "Cheese Factor" - Boyle's film does not concentrate on the heroic task that these people have undertaken, but instead focus on the human interaction between the crew and the cost of human frailty. Visually stunning with awesome scenes of Mercury and the Sun, my vote is to go see this in IMAX.

Beaches Jazz Festival 2007

I hit the Jazz Festival on Sunday - first time in a long time. Not being a big fan of huge crowds, I usually stay far, far away. As well, growing up in the Beaches, I tended to see it as more an inconvenience than an inducement to walk along Queen. I believe my biggest pet peeve with the festival was that it wasn't a "Jazz" festival at all, but more a hodgepodge of various music genres. This year, I spent hours by the main stage and was grooving to the sounds of Treasa Levasseur and the SoulJazz Orchestra. Quite an improvement from years gone past. For those of you who stopped by the toronto.com booth to say hello and tell us how much you love the website - thank you! It was a pleasure to meet you all!

Infatuations

It's that time of year again....fall fashions are hitting stores and the realization that summer will soon be over. I'm not sure why I get so excited about it - perhaps it has been ingrained into me: Back to school outfits! September was always an exciting time....cooler weather (aka better hair days), catching up with friends, no more short shorts (thank god) - what's not to like?!
I already have some infatuations with what is coming up this autumn...I need to hold myself back a little!

Love the layers and ruffles!

The Deathly Hallows

Planning to spend Friday night waiting in line until 12:01am - kinda sad.
Having your plans changed and spending the weekend at a cottage with the need to be social - new plan needed.
Driving 2 hours to the nearest town during one of the most beautiful days of the summer - dedication.

I finished the book on Monday night and....and...I don't know what to say. I feel that JK Rowling did a tremendous job tying up all the loose ends and answering everyone's questions. I especially liked being able to see "19 Years Later" and having a glimpse. It is all a little bittersweet though...no more cheering Harry on in his exploits, or laughing at the Weasley twins' highjinx...I wonder how JK Rowling feels. Perhaps like a parent letting go of now-grown up child - she's done all the nurturing she can do, now she has to let go....

Now, all us Muggles have to look forward to is the movies. I think the 7th movie will be a blockbuster - so much action! Can't wait!

Cruz Sisters for Mango - September 16th, 2007

Monica Cruz and her much more famous older sis, Penelope, have created a line for Mango. The siblings modeled some of their designs recently in Ibiza, which will be in stores September 16th with the new Autumn/Winter collections.

Love this short dress that Pene is wearing!

Victoria Beckham: Coming to America

Anyone catch the Victoria Beckham special last night? It tickles me that they were originally going to do a whole series on her, but ended up cutting it to a one-hour special due to lack of [entertaining] content and David's apparent disinterest in appearing on camera. I thought the special was incredibly choreographed, but was an interesting peek into the life of the super rich. Highlights: "I really thought my silicone was gonna fly out my armpit" & the dolphin call.

I went to see "Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix" on Wednesday night. Wow! It was incredible. This 5th installment was undeniabley the best so far. Whether it is the work of new director, Daniel Yates, or better performances, or better visual/digital effects, the effects were stunning. Seeing it in IMAX 3D was a visual treat. The last 30 minutes of the film, when they are in the Ministry of Magic, are stunning - especially the fight between Lord Voldemort and Dumbledore. If you haven't seen it already - go see it! Great casting for Luna Lovegood & Bellatrix Lastrange!
Box Office earnings for 07/11/07: $44.23 million! OMG!

Obsessions...

Sometimes I see something in a store window, glossy mag, or online that that catches my eye. I used to immediately purchase it and revel in the glow of having something that is new/sparkley/fabulous. As I've gotten a little older, and cleaned out my closet a number of times, I realize that these spur-of-the-moment purchases often sit unworn/unused in my wardrobe. So, now I have a new philosophy: if I see something that makes my heart beat a little faster, I wait and think about all the fabulous ways I will wear or use it. If, days/weeks go by and I still can't stop thinking about it, I will get it. It has stopped me from buying some really trendy items that I know I would have regretted. I've posted the newest obsession on my mind....Aren't they fabulous?!

Target: Go International with Libertine

The newest collaborators with Target are out in stores nationwide (US) on July 15th, 2007. The high-end designer is offering the token cheap designs that fail to impress me this time around. Loved Tara Jarmon & the current Patrick Robinson clothing, but from the press release photos, Libertine is aiming more towards the tweens than the twenty-somethings (skulls are waaayyy over). I am still frustrated that Target does not ship to Canada with their online store - but I suppose that gives me the excuse to drive down to Buffalo for the day and hit up the outlets as well...

Roberto Cavalli for H&M - Thursday November 8th, 2007

Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! I am so excited about H&M's choice this year!!! I know I'll already be - cough, sniffle - sick that day. Here are some of his beautiful creations (probably not what he will be selling at H&M - too bad!)

Tuesday, July 10, 2007

Hmmmm....first one up here. Something extra special.....Harry Potter! The "Order of the Phoenix" comes out tomorrow and I've got an IMAX ticket with my name on it. Word on the street is that Rupert Grint is showing up to the Scotia Bank Theatre. Interesting - I would have prefered Hermoine myself. Has anyone else noticed that Emma Watson has worn nothing but Chanel to all the premieres?! How old is she?! 17? Is Karl dressing her himself - she looks thin enough for his standards....Anyway, I digress. We'll see how the film goes!

P.S. Don't you wish you could use the Floo network to get to work?!
